I fully support the proposed master V horizon put forth by Turk et al. Having worked and taught pedology in desert environments for the past seven years it is clear that these horizons merit their own master horizon designation and are of substantial importance for arid land management and land use. The proposal is well written and thorough and backed up by decades of research.
